Cheek Juvederm injection
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal Fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, etc. are different formulations of hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance present in the human body. They are injected just under the skin surface to temporarily correct wrinkles. By absorbing water and adding volume, they fill facial lines.
When do you see the results of filler injection?
Treatment results are seen immediately but can be more prominent in 7-10 days. Sometimes more than one treatment setting is needed for the desired shape.
How long the filler effect will last?Because the filler material will gradually break down and be absorbed by the body, the effect will gradually wear out. Thus dermal filler injections need to be repeated to maintain the desired effect. Depending on the specific filler brand used, results can last from 6 months to 18 months.
Are there any side effects for fillers? Is it true that some medications can potentiate side effects?
Although most patients do not experience complications, temporary bruising is common, especially in persons using aspirin, iburporfen, blood thinner or vitamin E.
Does filler injection hurts?
For most people the answer is No. Dermal fillers are injected into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Also, most fillers have a local anesthetic mixed with the active substance to reduce pain. Even so, some unusually sensitive people may need topical numbing cream or gel for pain especially on the lips. Occasionally, patients may have tenderness, redness or swelling which subside within one or two days.
Are there any precautions to be observed after Filler injections?
It is usually advised to minimize exposure of treated areas to excessive sunlight, sauna or UV lamp. The use of alcohol should also be avoided for the next 24 hours.
Is there possibility of scar formation after filler injection?
Scarring can occur following treatment in some susceptible individuals, and fillers should not be used in patients with a known potential for Keloid formation or heavy scarring.
Are there any other side effects?
There is a minimal risk of serious complications like infection, vessel occlusion, granuloma, abscess formation and hypersensitive reactions and these are very rare. If you have recent history of Herpes Simplex in the area to be treated, your medical provider will recommend prophylactic antiviral medicines.
What are the contraindications for Fillers?
Dermal fillers like most other medications are contraindicated in case of pregnancy or breast feeding women.
If I don’t like the results of Filler injection can it be reversed?
Yes there is a medicine which can reverse the shape resulting from Filler injection if used immediately or as soon as possible.
How to get the best results with Fillers?
There is a possibility of uneven appearance on the face with some areas more affected by the filler than others, and it can be corrected by more injections in the same or nearby areas. Although no 100% guarantee for good results , most cases have acceptable results. The use of laser treatments on top of the injection sites is not advised as it carries the risk of reducing or abolishing the desired filler effect. To get the best results of Fillers you need a skilled medical personnel to do the injections and you need to abide with all the precautions and post treatment restrictions
